It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Amina Alhassan Ahman, who died on 20th May 2025. Amina was one of the founding members of WAVE Foundation Africa and remained a pillar of support throughout her time with us. Her warmth, dedication, and consistent contributions helped shape the foundation's mission and impact. She was easy-going, amiable, and beloved by all who worked with her.
Amina held a degree in English Language and was a seasoned media practitioner with over 20 years of professional experience. Her expertise spanned Editorial and Public Relations, Management, and Supervision. As a UNFPA-trained journalist, she focused on Public Health Reporting, Trending and Development Journalism. Her work was deeply rooted in advocacy for the sexual, reproductive, and health rights of women and girls, aligning closely with government efforts to ensure support and protection for the vulnerable.
Amina was known for her ability to juggle multiple responsibilities, meet tight deadlines, and maintain a meticulous editorial standard—skills honed from her years in print media. She was a natural leader, a relationship builder, and a passionate advocate for community service and outreach.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Amina enjoyed writing, blogging, and reading. A well-travelled individual, she explored many parts of the world and Nigeria, broadening her perspective and enriching her work. She was also a devoted mother to four children.
Amina’s legacy of compassion, excellence, and service will remain with us. She will be deeply missed.
