House of Representatives Moves to Boost Women's Recruitment into the #Nigeria #Police Force
On the 17th of Nov 2025, the House of #Representatives took a significant step toward strengthening women's participation in national security as Speaker Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas pushed forward an amendment to the Police Act aimed at improving women's recruitment and representation within the Nigeria Police Force.
WAVE Foundation Africa, represented by Ihesiaba Daniel and Josiah Obeka was in attendance at the public hearing, lending our voice and support to this critical conversation. Increasing women's presence in policing is not just a gender issue-it is a strategic investment in community safety, justice delivery, and trust-building between citizens and law enforcement.
This amendment has the potential to break long-standing structural barriers, widen the pipeline for qualified female officers, and align Nigeria's policing standards with global best practices.
At WAVE Foundation Africa Foundation, we remain committed to advancing systems that protect the rights, dignity, and safety of women and girls. We applaud the lawmakers, stakeholders, and civil society partners working to make this reform a reality.
A safer, more inclusive Nigeria is possible-and days like this bring us closer.
